Methodology

Daily cost = (Head × Daily feed lbs) / 2000 × Price per ton. Monthly and annual costs are extrapolated from daily cost. This gives a baseline estimate — actual costs vary with seasonal feed price fluctuations and changing animal needs.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Using as-fed weight instead of dry matter weight, which overstates actual nutrient delivery.
• Not updating feed prices seasonally — grain and hay prices can swing 30-50% through the year.
