How to Use This Calculator
Enter the spray or irrigation application rate in gallons per acre. The calculator converts it to liters per hectare. Use this when applying products with metric-labeled rates on US acreage, or when converting US rates for international reporting.
Why This Matters
Spray application rates must be exact to ensure proper pest and weed control. Converting incorrectly between gallons per acre and liters per hectare leads to under-dosing (poor control) or over-dosing (crop damage, illegal residues, and wasted product).
Methodology
Liters per hectare = Gallons per acre × 9.354. The factor combines the gallon-to-liter conversion (3.785) with the acre-to-hectare conversion (2.471). Reverse: Gallons per acre = Liters per hectare × 0.1069.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying the conversion in the wrong direction — GPA to L/ha multiplies, L/ha to GPA divides.
- Confusing spray volume rate with product rate — you may apply 15 GPA of water but only 1 qt/acre of chemical.
- Not recalibrating spray nozzles after changing between US and metric rate settings.
- Forgetting that carrier volume (water) and product rate must be converted separately.
Tips & Best Practices
- Multiply gal/acre by 9.354 to get L/ha.
- Multiply L/ha by 0.1069 to get gal/acre.
