How to Use This Calculator
Enter the application rate in pounds per acre from your soil test or product label. The calculator converts it to kilograms per hectare and also shows the rate per 1,000 square feet for smaller applications like lawns and gardens.
Why This Matters
Fertilizer and chemical labels from international manufacturers use kg/ha, while US soil test recommendations use lbs/acre. Incorrect conversion leads to over- or under-application, wasting money or damaging crops and the environment.
Methodology
Kg per hectare = Lbs per acre × 1.1209. The factor 1.1209 accounts for both the weight conversion (lbs to kg) and the area conversion (acres to hectares). Reverse: Lbs per acre = Kg per hectare × 0.8922.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying the conversion factor backwards — multiplying kg/ha by 1.1209 instead of 0.8922 to get lbs/acre.
- Not converting when switching between US and imported products with metric labels.
- Confusing lbs of product per acre with lbs of active ingredient per acre.
- Forgetting to adjust for product concentration when converting between formulations.
Tips & Best Practices
- Multiply lbs/acre by 1.1209 to get kg/ha.
- Multiply kg/ha by 0.8922 to get lbs/acre.
