Methodology

Total seeds = Seed weight (lbs) × Seeds per pound. Seeds per ounce = Seeds per pound / 16. Seed count per pound varies by crop and variety: wheat ~15,000, corn ~1,200-1,500, soybeans ~2,500-3,000, alfalfa ~220,000 seeds per pound.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Using a generic seeds-per-pound figure instead of the actual value from your seed lot tag.
• Not adjusting for germination rate — if germination is 90%, you need 10% more seed.
